Explore Scuba Diving & Snorkeling in Koh Chang and Beyond
Koh Chang, located in the Gulf of Thailand, is part of a designated national marine park. This lush island, along with its surrounding archipelago, offers exceptional diving and snorkeling experiences. Its rich marine biodiversity and a wide range of dive sites make it a top destination for divers of all levels. Several resorts and dive shops are available, making it easy to plan extended stays and underwater adventures.
Signature Dive Sites Around Koh Chang
Cubic Rock
Often praised as one of the most scenic dives in the region, Cubic Rock features a towering wall-like formation on its western side. The site has a maximum depth of 22 meters and is small enough to explore fully in one dive. Expect to see squids, needlefish, and a variety of marine life in the shallower areas.
Blueberry Hill
This popular dive site is home to two large submerged boulders surrounded by coral reefs. Common sightings include redcoat squirrelfish, ghost pipefish, and squids.
Hin Raab Nuea
Comprised of two large rocks, the eastern section is shallower with vibrant coral reefs down to 6–7 meters, often visited by blacktip reef sharks. A cavern on the southern base shelters a variety of marine life, while the western rock descends deeper. Between the two rocks is a scenic canyon perfect for safety stops.
Hin Raab Tai
Encircled by colorful coral, this site teems with tropical fish. Whale shark sightings have been recorded, making this an exciting option for big-animal lovers.
Secret Reef
Secret Reef is one of Koh Chang’s hidden gems — a quiet and lesser-known dive site perfect for those looking to escape the crowds. Located just 20–30 minutes from the island by boat, this reef offers calm conditions and a variety of marine life, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced divers.
With depths ranging from 5 to 16 meters, divers can explore vibrant hard and soft corals, giant barrel sponges, and colorful reef fish like parrotfish, butterflyfish, lionfish, and clownfish. If you look closely, you might also spot nudibranchs and other macro life hiding among the corals.
The water is usually clear during diving season (November to April), providing excellent visibility and a peaceful underwater experience.
Hin Ruea Taek
A submerged formation descending to 17 meters, Hin Ruea Taek features a long coral ridge running north to south. The reef is rich with lionfish, sea turtles, and occasionally stingrays hiding in the sandy patches. Some areas are also shallow enough for snorkelers.
Wreck Diving Highlights
htms Chang
Thailand’s largest wreck dive at 100 meters long and 15 meters high, HTMS Chang was scuttled in 2012 by the Royal Thai Navy to form an artificial reef. Resting at a depth of 30 meters, it’s an epic site for advanced divers.
T.11 Wreck
A 30-meter-long decommissioned coastal patrol boat that was sunk in 2013 to form a reef. At a depth of 17 meters, it’s home to bamboo sharks, nurse sharks, and a variety of reef fish.
Koh Rang National Park Dive Spots
Hin Kradueang
An exceptional site featuring dramatic rock formations and a wide variety of marine life.
Koh Thian, Koh Kra & Koh Thonglang
Located northeast of Koh Rang, these small islands are ringed by vibrant coral reefs ideal for both snorkeling and diving.
Horseshoe Rock (Three Finger Rock)
A unique wall dive on the southern side, known for high biodiversity. Expect to encounter bamboo sharks, blue-spotted stingrays, angelfish, moray eels, sea slugs, and more.
Koh Yak Yai & Koh Yak Lek
These twin islands offer rich coral ecosystems and expansive fields of sea anemones—perfect for divers and snorkelers alike.
Diving Extensions: Koh Mak & Koh Kood
Not far from Koh Chang, the islands of Koh Mak and Koh Kood are quieter getaways offering equally rich underwater experiences and overnight accommodation options.
Koh Mak
Surrounded by tiny islets like Koh Phi and Koh Rayang, this island is excellent for diving and snorkeling with plenty of coral life and reef fish.
Koh Kood
This island features a variety of dive sites including Ao Phak Waen, Koh Mai Chee, Ao Khlong Chao, Hin Loi, Ao Tum, Ao Salad, Banana Bay, and Ao Karang. It’s a haven for marine diversity and offers many dive shops and resort options.
